An increasingly irate passenger demanding nuts and crackers forced a place to make an emergency landing, costing the airline an estimated £350,000 ($552,125).

Jeremiah Mathis Thede was a passenger on United Airlines flight 971 from Rome to Chicago.

He allegedly began demanding “nuts or crackers” 15 minutes into the trip. When told he had to wait, he became irate.

“I can have as much nuts and crackers as I f****** want,” he told plane staff, The Sun reports.

united planeThe plane was diverted to Northern Ireland, landing in Belfast after dumping some 50,000 gallons of fuel.

“The 282 passengers were forced to wait almost 24 hours before the plane could take off again with 269 having to sleep on the terminal floors, police said,” the paper reports.

According to NBC Bay Area, Thede is a Berkeley resident.

He was arrested and charged with “endangering the safety of the plane, disruptive behavior on board an aircraft and common assault.”

Thede’s lawyer said his client denies wrongdoing, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

He allegedly believes there was a “conspiracy” against him and that people were “picking” on him.

Belfast airport administrators say Thede’s fellow passengers were “remarkably calm and understanding” given the circumstances.

“We understand the inconvenience this causes our customers and will refund their Rome to Chicago flight as well as offer the choice of a travel certificate or miles for our MileagePlus loyalty program,” the airline said in a statement.

According to The Sun, an airline officer estimates the cost of the emergency landing “would be upwards of £300,000 to £350,000. There is compensation for passengers.”
