If only we could celebrate our independence from California.
Mark Dice interviewed beachgoers in San Diego and asked them various questions involving Independence Day.
“What country famously broke away from England to start their own country in the late 1700s?” he asked.
“I have no idea,” one interviewee said.
He asked a woman, “What are we celebrating on the 4th of July?”
“Our independence,” she replied.
“It’s a day we overtook the south,” she added.
“So it was the victory of the Civil War?” he asked.
“Yes,” she said.
Another woman thought the Declaration of Independence was signed by Abraham Lincoln. In 1964. Or 1984.
“What country did we declare our independence from?” Dice asked a man.
“Help be baby,” the man said to his fellow beachgoer.
“California!” she answered.
Another man thought there we’re “50-something” stars on the flag.
In Dice’s video, only an Italian tourist knew America declared independence from England.
“Everybody loves to get rid of their colonizers,” the man said.
