Some parents are convinced the fictional “Minionese” language is actually swear words in English.
McDonald’s is offering a series of 10 talking Happy Meal toys to promote the new movie “Minions.” They all say a number of things, but the one dressed as a caveman has parents’ ears perking up.
“I heard a bop, bop, bop,” Ohio parent Doug Hermanson tells Fox 28. “That’s all I heard, which seems completely innocent.”
But others aren’t so sure.
“I heard what it said and I’m like, ‘whoa, hang on here,'” Taylor King, a parent of a 3-year-old, says. “It clearly says what it says.”
He thinks it says “what the f*ck.”
“As soon as we heard it, her mom took it away,” says Robert Frazier, another parent. “I listened to it and that’s when we found out that’s what it was saying.”
Paul Butts posted an example of the toy’s “Minionese” on YouTube:
He adds he thinks it also says, “Well, I’ll be damned.”
“(My kids) are old enough now where they’re going to mock anything they hear from a toy,” according to King. “It’s coming from a toy. They’re going to assume it’s okay to say that.”
Florida grandparent Bradley Merten heard it, too.
“It turned out to be a toy that decided to talk profanity,” Merten tells WFTV. “I can’t believe it’s coming out of a toy.”
McDonald’s is denying the toys are saying anything explicit and any similarities to English curse words are “just a coincidence.”
