There’s a yearning for “straight talk” in America today. If you want some, just call Charlie Daniels.

Charlie DanielsThe country music legend gave a wide-ranging interview to The American Mirror recently, and in it, he gave his observations about some in the current field of presidential candidates.

“I travel this country coast to coast and border to border every year and I feel a great unrest in this country,” Daniels says.

“We don’t have any leadership on either side,” he adds, believing the situation will “definitely” get worse before it gets better.

“Have you noticed what Donald Trump has been doing in the polls lately? He’s arrogant. He’s far from anything anybody would think about being presidential material.

“He’s leading because he’s speaking plain talk. He’s speaking talk that people can understand. He’s talking about actually identifying a problem and doing something about it. Whether you agree with the approach that he takes or not, if he’s ham-fisted and heavy-handed or whatever it is, at least he’s saying, ‘We’ve got this problem, and here’s what we need to do about it.’

“Most of those guys are saying, ‘We’ve got this problem and we’re going to take it under advisement, we’ll study it,’ and (Trump is) standing up and actually talking about solving problems. That’s what we need, that’s what we want,” Daniels tells The American Mirror.

“I don’t know that Donald Trump’s the man to bring it to us, I don’t really know anything about the man to be honest with you.

“We need people who will identify problems and deal with them and tell us how they’re gonna deal with them.”

The music legend insists he isn’t a Republican or a Democrat but rather judges candidates by “the content of their character.”

He also says he hasn’t picked a candidate yet and won’t “openly support” one.

But there are two candidates that can be safely scratched off Daniels’ list.

“Hillary’s just more of the same (as Obama),” Daniels says.

“And Bernie Sanders? He’s a damn communist!” he observes.

“She’s like a high school principal.

“Hillary, to me – and I’ve never met her – I just don’t think she’s a very likeable person.

“Now her husband was extremely likeable – just loaded with personality, very charismatic. Could sit down and talk to a hog farmer or the head of a corporation.

“Hillary doesn’t exert that kind of aura. She’s not that kind of person. If you took her to a farmers co-op, she’d be completely out of whack. Bill could put on a pair of overalls and fall in with everybody else.

“People are finally saying, ‘what the hell is she talking about?’”

Daniels believes the Benghazi scandal and Clinton’s reaction to it.

“I think Benghazi cut her a whole lot deeper than anybody is willing to admit.”
