Iran may have its way with America at the nuclear negotiating table, but we can beat them at one thing: soccer-playing robots.

The U.S. defeated Iran in the RoboCup Wednesday by a score of 5-4. A four-and-a-half-foot American robot, named THORwin, saved the day and maintained what little dignity American leaders have left.

“The robots are not human-controlled and play football in a manner resembling young children: swarming around the ball, kicking haphazardly and often falling over,” YNet reports.

The players rely solely on AI, or artificial intelligence.

Some 175 robot teams from 47 different countries participated in this year’s tournament held in Hefei, China.

According to the rules, “The automatons must stand at least four feet tall, and have to dribble past objects on the field before they cock a metal leg and take a shot at goal,” according to The Guardian.

While there was no video available of America’s momentous defeat of the Iranians, here’s some slow, yet hypnotizing action featuring the Australian and German teams last year. Australia won 3-1.
