A man with an apparent vendetta against the Confederate flag endangered the lives of several people after he allegedly shot at a toy in the middle of a public street.
Witnesses say the man – for whom police are still searching – purchased an “antique Confederate flag painted wagon” for $30 at a Larimer County, Colorado thrift store.
The item’s list price was $30 and he attempted to haggle Kathryn Wegryzn’s thrift shop in Bellvue down to $19. Because of the “renewed interest” in Confederate merchandise, the clerk refused.
The man left the store and returned with $30 to purchase the item, the Coloradoan reports.
Witnesses say he then dragged the Confederate wagon – which had a design similar to the Dukes of Hazzard show’s General Lee car – into the street and first attempted to run over it with a black SUV.
He failed.
The man then allegedly exited the vehicle with a handgun and attempted to shoot the wagon “at least” 9 times, “causing those in the store and others at a nearby art sale to scatter.”
Witnesses described the man as “a white male in his 60s with short hair.”
According to 9 News, investigators are looking into whether the shooter in this act is connected to three Northern Colorado shootings, which left two men dead. The occurred June 27th but details are just now being released after the sheriff’s department complied with a Freedom of Information Act request.
