Despite Fox News debate moderator Megyn Kelly’s controversial question about Donald Trump’s statements regarding women — and the subsequent news coverage — the kerfuffle hasn’t hampered his support among them.

Trump-debateA new Suffolk University poll of Iowa voters shows Trump is leading the pack with 17% of all respondents saying they support the businessman.

He’s also garnering the largest share of support among women. According to the poll, 14% say they support Trump. By comparison, the only woman in the Republican field, Carly Fiorina, has the support of 8% of women polled.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is second among women, with 11%. He’s third overall with the support of 10% of all respondents. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is in second overall at 12%.

“It appears that Donald Trump’s lead is strong so long as the number of active opponents remains above a dozen,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center says in a news release.

“If the Republican field were winnowed down to five or six candidates, Trump’s 17 percent probably wouldn’t be enough to win in Iowa, as polling indicates that his further growth has limitations. The long-shot candidates staying in the race help keep Trump on top—at least for now.”

Deep in the cross tabs, one question focused on Trump’s treatment of women.

On the question, “Donald Trump doesn’t show appropriate respect for women,” only 32% agreed, while 46% believe “Criticism of Donald Trump’s comments about women are just examples of political correctness.” A 43% plurality of women agreed with that statement.

As for the so-called “happy hour” debate featuring the lower-polling candidates, a whopping 82% of respondents thought Carly Fiorina won it. Two candidates were tied at 5% for a distant second place: Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Of people who watched both debates, 93% of respondents believe Fiorina should be included in future “top tier” events.
