Lee County, Florida sheriff’s detectives say they’ve seen a lot of crime scenes in their day, but a recent triple homicide was one “we considered unimaginable.”
Police say illegal immigrant Brian Omar Hyde butchered Dorla Pitts, her daughter Starlette Pitts and Michael Kelly, Jr. in Lehigh Acres.
An 18-month-old daughter of the younger Pitts and Kelly was found at the scene.
Hyde was arrested Tuesday for driving without a license. Police say he had blood on his body and clothes.
Lee County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Sands says it was an “extremely violent scene, even for us. All homicide scenes are normally violent, but this scene was what we considered unimaginable,” ABC 7 reports.
He adds there was evidence all of the victims “tried to defend themselves.”
Kelly’s mother says Hyde, a native of Belize, was her daughter’s cousin and he had been staying at the home.
According to the sheriff’s department, “Hyde is in the country illegally and is awaiting a court hearing as an illegal immigrant, having crossed the Texas border earlier this year.”
The suspect was apprehended in Fort Myers when police say he was driving recklessly and on the opposite side of the road.
The News-Press reports Hyde was “known to US Immigration and Custom Enforcement and was sought for deportation.”
Janine Pelecio, of Belmopan, Belize and a relative, says Pitts was happy to have Hyde staying with them.
“The last time I talked to them was on Sunday,” she said. “Everybody was all one big perfect family.”
“She welcomed him into the home. She always wanted to have a son,” she says.
