Another potentially avoidable accident occurred Sunday evening when an illegal immigrant was allegedly driving while “impaired” and collided with a car while he was attempted to pass it illegally.
Tucson, Arizona police say 22-year-old Julio Cesar Lavarga-Carranza, pictured right, was driving a white Honda “erratically and was attempting to pass a vehicle illegally on the right,” Tucson News Now reports.
Witnesses say he lost control and collided with a vehicle that was carrying a family of five. Both vehicles collided into a brick wall of a near-by residence.
According to the witnesses, Lavarga-Carranza fled the scene on foot but was captured a short time later and brought back to the scene of the crash.
There, he was identified as the driver of the Honda, according to police.
Lavarga-Carranza was arrested for “driving while impaired, aggravated assault, hit and run and criminal damage,” according to the police report, and booked into the Pinal County Detention Center.
The news station reports Lavarga-Carranza is a Mexican-national and admitted to deputies that he was in the country illegally.
The family of five suffered “minor injuries,” according to ABC 15.
