Ramadan may have ended July 17, and September 11th may be the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil, neither of those facts are stopping two mid-Michigan mayors from hosting a Muslim event on 9/11.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett are joining forces to host the “Ramadan Unity Dinner” in downtown Lansing.
The mayors are also using taxpayer resources to hold an essay contest in conjunction with the dinner.
“The theme of the contest is ‘Hope, Not Hunger’ and the essay prizes include $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place,” according to a news release from the city of East Lansing.
“Submitted essays should help bring awareness to the plight of hunger and promote a better understanding of how communities can help feed those that experience hunger and impart hope. Essays (one entry per person) should be 250 to 500 words and must be written in English. Essays will be judged on clarity, reflective thinking, grammar/spelling and overall effectiveness,” the release reads.
So far, the Freedom From Religion Foundation has not weighed in on this heavily promoted use of taxpayer funds for an overtly religious event.
They must be too busy ripping bibles out of government schools.
