The Pembroke Pines, Florida police chief is demanding an apology after one of his officers was denied service at an Arby’s restaurant.

pembroke pines arbys“I am offended and appalled that an individual within our community would treat a police officer in such a manner. It is unacceptable, and I will be contacting the Arby’s CEO to demand an apology,” PPPD Chief Dan Giustino says in a news release.

The release states the officer was denied service “due to being a police officer.”

The female officer attempted to order in the drive-through lane, but, according to a police report, the male worker said he did not want to take her order “because she was a police officer.” The officer, stunned, drove away, not wanting to make a “big deal” over the incident.

According to the department, the treatment of the officer stands in stark contrast to that of other residents.

“Ironically, a local mother and her daughter visited police headquarters that same evening and dropped off cookies and a ‘Thank You’ card to show their appreciation for our agency and its officers,” the release states.

“We are very proud of the partnerships we have built within our city, and for an incident like this to have happened is very disappointing for everyone,” Giustino says.

The chief says he talked to Arby’s CEO Paul Brown and senior vice president of operations Scott Boatwright this morning, who said the treatment of the officer was “unacceptable and not representative of the company’s values,” Local 10 reports.
