Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” audience loved Joe Biden last night.

When the show returned from a commercial break during his appearance, the crowd spontaneously chanted “Joe, Joe, Joe!” while Colbert was acknowledging his guest.

“Be careful what you wish for,” Biden responded.

Colbert’s theme for Biden’s appearance was conveying the vice president’s humanity and authenticity.

“I can’t image spending 9 years pretending to be somebody that you’re not,” Colbert said to Biden in the first segment, an apparent reference to Hillary Clinton.

Laughing, Biden responded, “I’m gonna get in trouble, I can feel it.”

The latest national poll finds Biden climbing in popularity among Democrats.

The Huffington Post reports:

Hillary Clinton still led the field but with a reduced margin in the Monmouth University poll released on Tuesday. The former U.S. secretary of state had 42 percent support, down from 52 percent in August, while Biden had 22 percent backing and Sanders 20 percent. Biden, who has not said yet said whether he will seek the candidacy, had 12 percent support last month.

During the “Late Show” appearance, Biden seemed very reluctant to declare his candidacy, saying no one should run if they cannot give “110%.”
