While support for Jeb Bush remains strong among Republican elites — those in the media and donor class — the skepticism among the grassroots is growing.
A new Rasmussen poll finds over one-third — 36% — of likely Republican voters believe “Bush has more in common with Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, than with the average GOP voter when it comes to the major issues facing the nation.”
Only slightly more — 40% — believe Bush has more in common with them.
The number of Republican voters who believe Bush will be the party’s nominee has taken a plunge.
In June, 56% believed Bush would be the nominee, compared to 41% now, according to the poll.
Donald Trump has had a huge impact on Bush’s numbers. Sixty-six percent of likely Republican voters polled now believe Trump will be the nominee, with 26% thinking he is “very likely.”
