Not only did his dog eat his homework, but the pooch was driving, too!

Sarasota, Florida police say Reliford Cooper was driving while intoxicated recently when he drove into two ditches and ended up hiding out in a church bathroom.

A Manatee County deputy saw a car speeding through neighborhood streets at around 8 p.m. Wednesday. When the deputy attempted to pull over Cooper, the suspect accelerated through a turn “and traveled into a ditch on the north side of the road,” ABC Action News reports.

Cooper then allegedly “overcorrected,” causing him to drive into the ditch on the other side of the road. He then crashed into a house and fled on foot.

A pastor of a nearby church alerted the police that someone was hiding out in their bathroom. Churchgoers “forced” Cooper out and he was detained.

According to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, Cooper then ridiculed the officers, saying, “Who was chasing me?” adding, “You slow as f*ck!”

He then allegedly said, “My dog was driving that car, I ran cause I wanted to. You ain’t gonna find no drugs or guns on me.”

Police say he reeked of alcohol and marijuana. Cooper then began throwing up and claimed he had a back injury.

After a trip to the hospital, Cooper was taken to jail, NBC 6 reports.

There’s no word on what happened to the dog Cooper accused of driving drunk.
