Donald Trump could do something no Republican presidential candidate has done since 1972: win Minnesota.

Trump-debateA new poll by KSTP-TV finds Trump is edging out Hillary Clinton in the long-time blue state, 45% to 42%.

Interestingly, Trump’s lead over Clinton is wider among Millennial voters, 47% to 43%.

The poll finds Trump is also in the lead for the Republican nomination. Twenty six percent of likely Republican voters currently support Trump. Mirroring national polls, Ben Carson is in second place with 19%, while Marco Rubio is in third with 16%.

No Republican presidential candidate has captured Minnesota’s electoral votes since 1972, according to 270towin.com.

President Obama won the state in 2012, 53% to 45%. He also won in handily in 2008, 54% to 44%.

The support for Trump is striking, given Minnesota voters overwhelmingly approve of the Democrats they have elected in the state.

Gov. Mark Dayton has a 52% approval rating, according to the poll, while U.S. Sen. Al Franken wins the approval of 55% of respondents. The state’s junior U.S. Senator, Amy Klobuchar, has a 60% approval rating.

Only Barack Obama is under water. Poll respondents give him a 37% job approval rating, while 56% disapprove of his performance.
