A new poll shows the views of California voters — including self-identified “liberals” — are decidedly divergent from their governor’s when it comes to accommodating Syrian refugees.

Survey USA conducted a poll on behalf of KGTV-TV San Diego and found 69% of respondents believe California should “abandon future plans” to relocate Syrian refugees within the state. Sixty-two percent of self-identified “liberals” believe the state should reverse course. Only 21% of all respondents said “move forward.”

Gov. Jerry Brown can be counted among that slim 21%.

He released a statement Monday vowing to continue bringing Syrian refugees into the state, despite security concerns raised after the Paris terrorist attacks.

“I intend to work closely with the President so that he can both uphold America’s traditional role as a place of asylum, but also ensure that anyone seeking refuge in America is fully vetted in a sophisticated and utterly reliable way,” Brown said, according to ABC 7. “You can be sure that we will do everything in our power to protect the people of our state.”

The Survey USA poll also found 51% of Californians responded that they are “very” concerned an attack could occur in their area.

The poll finds California residents have a dim view of how President Obama is handling the threat. It finds 63% of respondents believe the campaign against ISIS is “going poorly.” Giving the same answer were 67% of self-identified “liberals.”

Only 4% believe U.S. actions to combat the terror group are “going well.”

And in a dramatic shift since the days of Iraq war fatigue, 54% of Californians would support “sending American ground troops to fight ISIS in Syria.” Even support among liberals is considerably high. The poll finds 46% of liberals would support ground troops while 48% would oppose such an action.
