Six Middle Eastern men were detained in Arizona Monday after they were caught trying to cross the southern border illegally.

The Border Patrol says five Pakistani Nationals and one Afghan national were apprehended about 18 miles into the United States, Fox 10 reports.

“As a standard procedure, agents processed the six individuals and checked their identities against numerous law enforcement and national security related databases,” a statement from the agency reads.

“Record checks revealed no derogatory information about the individuals.”

The Border Patrol didn’t theorize why men traveling from the east would attempt to enter the United States from the southwest. Or if they weren’t up to no good, why they would attempt to do so illegally.

The six men were accompanied by two smugglers. They were arrested, as well.
