The victim of a sexual assault in North Dakota says the alleged perpetrator uttered “Allah Akbar” during the attack Wednesday.
A woman was seized while working at Gordy’s Travel Plaza in Mapleton, North Dakota and sexually assaulted, KVLV reports.
According to court documents Abdulrahman Ali forced the travel plaza employee “into the women’s bathroom, locked the door behind him and started assaulting her in the center of the room naked.”
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and began pounding on the bathroom door, demanding to know if there were any weapons.
“She is my wife,” Ali allegedly told officers.
After getting the door open, court records indicate the deputies found Ali “completely naked” and the victim injured and in tears.
The victim tells police Ali was mumbling during the attack and she didn’t know if he was speaking English or another language, but she says he uttered “Allah Akbar” — “God is the greatest” in Arabic. The woman added she had never seen him before.
Ali’s bail was set at $1 million after “he was a no show for his first appearance on five felony charges” Friday, WDAY reports. The charges include gross sexual imposition, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and two counts of terrorizing.
Ali’s family insists he suffers from “mental illness.”
