Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley continued his criticism of the Democratic National Committee — and Debbie Wasserman Schultz in particular — during an appearance on MSNBC Tuesday.
Speaking about the DNC’s steategy to hold debates when fewer people would watch — such as Saturday evenings — O’Malley said, “They’re trying to circle the wagons around this year’s inevitable frontrunner, Hillary Clinton.
“And I think that the party leadership, or I should say the party leader, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is doing a terrible disservice to the public. Look at how many debates the Republicans have had and they scheduled them on week nights.
“We are the Democratic Party, not the undemocratic party. We should be having at least as many debates as they’ve had. But in the debates we have been allowed to have, although they’re hidden on Saturdays, nonetheless, people here in Iowa and people in New Hampshire have been doing out of their way to do their due diligence,” O’Malley said.
It’s just the latest dig over debates at Wasserman Schultz and the DNC by O’Malley.
“You’ve been struggling some in the polls. Do you think that is, in part, because there haven’t been Democratic debates yet?” MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell asked him September.
He responded, “I think that’s a big part of it. I’ve said this very clearly, I believe this is party malpractice for the Republicans to have debate after debate, present their ideas and their candidates to 24 million Americans and for the Democratic Party to remain silent and to limit debates.
“I think that’s a huge mistake,” he added.
