Jefferson County, Colorado police are looking for one of two men who attempted to rob a Littleton homeowner by posing as buyers responding to a Craigslist ad.
The other was shot dead by the homeowner as he attempted to flee the scene in the homeowner’s SUV, The Denver Post reports.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials were called to a home on South Taft Court in Littleton just after 9 a.m. Sunday to investigate a fatal shooting involving three men, one homeowner and two Hispanic males who came to the home in a gold Mustang to inquire about household items posted for sale on Craigslist.
Police contend one of the men pulled a gun on the homeowner, tied him up, and took the keys to his Ford SUV, CBS Denver reports.

The homeowner managed to free himself from the restraints, retrieved a handgun and confronted the men outside as they attempted to flee. One of the men was pulling away in the Ford SUV when the homeowner fired several shots into the vehicle, which careened into a nearby home, according to ABC 7.
The man in the Ford SUV later died at St. Anthony Hospital, while the suspect in the gold Mustang got away. Police told the Post the Mustang was stolen in Lakewood and recovered after it was abandoned in Federal Heights Sunday night.
“The second man remains on the lam,” according to the news site.
A neighbor, Aaron Anderson, told CBS Denver he heard the gunshots.
“It shows it can happen anywhere. You can think you live in a real comfortable neighborhood, but it can definitely happen anywhere,” Anderson said of relatively affluent neighborhood. “It sounded like a round of about five shots.”
Sheriff’s officials did not release the name of the deceased suspect, but described the second suspect as a Hispanic male in his 40s.
“The homeowner and his wife, who was also home at the time, weren’t hurt and were interviewed by police. It’s not clear if the homeowner will be charged for the shooting,” CBS Denver reports.
The incident in Littleton was only one of three Craigslist-related robberies in central Colorado on Sunday.
Police in Longmount, a suburb north of Denver, are searching for a gun used in a different Craigslist-related robbery Sunday at a McDonald’s on Main Street. The victim told police he arranged to meet a man who responded to his Craigslist ad for free marijuana, but when he arrived around 7:30 p.m. he was robbed at gunpoint, the Post reports.
As Longmount police investigated that case they learned Fort Collins police were searching for the same vehicle because it was involved a similar marijuana-related robbery in Fort Collins the same day.
“Larimer County deputies stopped a vehicle associated with the robbery on Interstate 25 Sunday night, and (officials) said four people inside the vehicle were arrested on charges stemming from the similar incident in Fort Collins,” according to the news site.
Longmount police are now searching areas near the robbery in hopes of retrieving the gun involved in the alleged crime, which they believe was tossed from the vehicle.
