In another pleading campaign email Thursday morning, Hillary Clinton is finally admitting she’s trailing in Iowa.
“With so little time left before the Iowa caucus,” Clinton writes, “more and more of you are stepping up (many for the first time!) to help close the gap between us and Senator Sanders.”
She adds, “This first contest can either build on our momentum and help us catch up to our opponent in New Hampshire — or it could leave us battling from behind. If it comes to that, I know this team can do it. But I also know that if you do everything you can right now, we’ll be off to a great start.”
She then asked supporters for $1.
That’s a far cry from the haul she collected at a bank in Philadelphia Wednesday night.
Diverting her attention from precious campaigning time in Iowa, Clinton jetted to the east coast to press the flesh with well-heeled Wall Street types.
“I am delighted to be with you in Mason City tonight. My opponent is not here,” Bernie Sanders told a crowd Wednesday night. “She’s raising money from a Philadelphia investment firm,” he said to boos and guffaws.
“Frankly I would rather be here with you.”
She was relentlessly ridiculed for the move on MSNBC Thursday morning.
“So let me get this straight,” “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough said to reporter Kasie Hunt, “Hillary Clinton had a fundraiser yesterday at a bank?”
“You heard the man,” Hunt replied.
“Wow,” Scarborough exclaimed.
