The Chicago chapter of the American Lawmen Motorcycle Club doesn’t appreciate the way Rev. Michael Pfleger – a rabid gun-control activist – flies the American flag.

Chiraq flagOn Thursday morning, the American flag outside of Pfleger’s church, St. Sabina, was at half-staff, below a much larger Chi-Raq flag from the new Spike Lee satire film about gun violence in the city’s South Side, CBS Chicago reports.

And it wasn’t long before the Lawmen gathered in front of the building to convince Pfleger to show some respect for their fallen comrades.

“It’s definitely disrespectful,” Frank Gremske, president of the Chicago chapter, told CBS Chicago. “Men and women over the years have died for that flag. Treat it with the rest it’s due, that’s all. That’s all were asking.”

Eventually, the church pulled down the Chi-Raq flag, then posted the American flag upside-down at half-mast, which prompted further backlash and a second change to upright, but still at half-mast.

“We have an American tradition of flying the flag half mast when there is some American tragedy or loss of life … Well, With Chicago Violence in January being the worst in over 16 years, I believe we are indeed experiencing an American Tragedy and certainly a loss of LIVES….so this morning WE LOWRED OUR AMERICAN FLAG TO HALF MAST and it will remain that way until this surge of Violence STOPS…I invite other churches and schools to do the same,” Pfleger posted to Facebook at 8:17 a.m.

At 12:34 p.m., he posted a follow up:

A couple of days ago I asked our Maintenance man to put the American Flag up Half-mast on our flag pole to mourn the lives lost and the plague of violence going on in Chicago….Yesterday afternoon I received a call saying the American Flag was flying under the Chi-Raq flag on our pole….i said it was an oversight and we would take the Chi-Raq flag down…left a message for our worker to do so this morning…..HUNDREDS of calls have come in since Shouting about the flag being under another Flag…..the SAD REALITY….PEOPLE ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSITION OF THE FLAG THAN THE LOSS OF LIVES….no one calling about that???? Boy are we a messed up Country!!!!

There were twice as many shootings in Chicago last month as last January, and homicides are up 75 percent. Last month, 51 people were murdered, the most in a January since 2000, according to CBS Chicago.

Regardless, the U.S. Flag Code calls for the American flag to fly above all others, and Canaryville Veterans Riders Association president Tom Russell believes Pfleger should have known better.

“I can understand if he’s mad about this. That’s fine … but fly the flag properly. A lot of people, good men and women, put their lives on the line for that flag,” he said.

Pfleger’s flag debacle is only the latest in a long and tired history of political posturing and vitriolic speeches about gun violence in the Windy City. Pfleger is aligned with Reverend Jesse Jackson, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence president Dan Gross and other far-left radicals who blame the heavily gun-controlled city’s problems on the NRA, and places like Chuck’s Gun Shop, Breitbart reports.

Pfleger and company grandstanded outside of Chuck’s in June to rally for a ban on guns that are already illegal in Chicago.

“I’m just tired, tired of the NRA. Tired of them prostitution themselves and buying politicians in this country. I’m tired of gun manufacturers and John Riggio from Chuck’s making money off the blood running down our streets, and children living in cemeteries,” he said. “While they live in gated communities where there are no gun shops like Chuck’s.

“I’m tired of funerals of babies, while (the) NRA, manufacturers, and Chuck’s, run to the bank making profits from death,” he said, according to the news site.

Interestingly, as Pfleger was busy fiddling with his flags, parishioners at St. Barnabas were calling on their church’s leadership to dis-invite Pfleger as a speaker for an upcoming “Thou Shalt Not Murder” campaign event. The campaign is an effort by seven churches in Beverly and Morgan Park to promote a murder free day in Chicago on Easter Sunday.

Many at St. Barnabas have threatened to stop donating and to pull their children from its school if Pfleger attends the Feb. 27 panel discussion as planned, according to Fox 32 and Pfleger’s Facebook ramblings.

“The feedback I’m getting is that this is a wonderful thing. But they want it to be unifying. They don’t want it to be division,” said Rev. William Malloy, Pastor of St. Barnabas Parish.

Others who purport to support Pfleger also objected to his use of the Chi-Raq flag on Facebook.

“Father Pfleger I usually support you but that flag. Those colors I don’t get it why not use the Chicago flag? Plus using the term Chiraq, the gangbangers support that not tax paying Chicago citizens,” Oliver Hart posted.

“Seriously father Michael L. Pfleger this is not what the problem is about in Chicago. He’s literally making a joke and $$ out of Chicago. Go back to NYC,” Charmaine Eniamrahc wrote.

“With much respect Father, I seriously can’t believe how much you have gotten away from teaching the word of God and so far into promoting Spike Lee and this craziness of a movie…. It is not helping anyone but Spike with more media and more $$$$ smh,” Bridget Krieman commented.
