Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich offered an interesting analogy at a town hall in Windham, New Hampshire yesterday when a woman asked him why she should vote for him over Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

Branding himself as a compromise candidate, Kasich said Sanders is too hot, and Clinton too cold – but the Ohio governor is just right.

“So, I’m still an undecided voter, but I’m choosing between you, Hillary, and Bernie Sanders,” the woman said in the C-SPAN 3 video posted to YouTube. “So my question is why should I vote for you in the Democratic primary?”

Kasich approached the woman in the audience to get “up close and personal” before going into his spiel.

“I am for Bernie being president of Ben and Jerry’s, and as a result of that I want them to give us free ice cream. I mean if we can get free everything, what about not free ice cream? …

“I’m an independent guy, nobody tells me what to do, but I’m not way out there,” he said, strolling around the town hall.

“Bernie is a socialist. That ain’t going to happen. That’s just not going to happen. We’re not going to tax people at 95 percent,” he said.

“The problem with Hillary is this: What’s the latest poll say? What’s the latest focus group?

“The Keystone Pipeline – I can make the environmentalists happy, or I can make them angry, or I can get the AFL-CIO happy. … Call the pollsters, what do they say?

“We can’t run America with pollsters,” Kasich said.

Kasich reiterated that his only boss is his wife, then transitioned to explain that he’s a great compromise between Clinton and Sanders, likening himself to the perfect porridge.

“We got to get hope back in the country again, and Hillary is too brittle and Bernie is way out here on the extreme,” Kasich told the young woman. “I’m the right porridge. One of them is too hot, the other one’s too cold, but I got the right temperature.”

Kasich looked for immediate feedback.

“How’d I do?” he asked, walking back to the woman. “Am I getting closer?”

“I’ll let you know tomorrow night,” she said.

“Will you call me?” Kasich asked.

“I’ll call you,” the woman said jokingly.

Kasich didn’t seem optimistic that he’d won the woman over.

“Ok, we’re going to give you a phone number ok …, no, you know what, if you don’t vote for me maybe you shouldn’t call me I might cry.”

In very early AP primary results Tuesday – only 1 percent of votes recorded – Kasich was virtually tied with Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.
