“So I am a young woman and, just to make one thing clear: I’m here because I support Bernie Sanders — I’m not here for the boys,” she said in reference to Gloria Steinem’s accusation that young women support Sanders to meet boys.
“I want a female president so that I can say to my daughter one day, you too can become president of the United States. I believe in that symbolic importance,” she said.
“But I have seen symbolism in election, symbolism that fails the people that so desperately need the action to make change. I want my first female president to be more than a symbol, I want her to have politics that can revolutionize.
“Bernie Sanders is offering the action we desperately need,” she said, also criticizing the “flawed economic system.”
“I’ve been so impressed by the Sanders campaign. How he has remained dignified in this political climate. In doing so, he has reminded us that this election is not about who you’d want to hang out with.
“It’s not about who can get things done or about who is more experienced, and it’s certainly not about the gender of the candidate.”
She concluded by saying Sanders can bring about “real change — one that will affect each and every American.”
