Hillary Clinton surrogate Sen. Cory Booker went off script Saturday when he was asked about Bill Clinton’s crime record in the 1990s.
Booker, who was campaigning for Clinton in Nevada, told MSNBC, “There were mistakes made back when I was in law school (by the Clintons).
“And I watched what happened with an 800% increase in the federal prison population. It is ridiculous, it is an outrageous, it is a shameful chapter,” he said.
But despite Bill Clinton being responsible for the policy, he believes Hillary Clinton is the one to fix it.
“And the question right now is, which candidate has the connections to our community, the track record to try to address those harms from the 1990s when we were building a new prison in the United States every 12 days.”
Booker even blamed Bernie Sanders for Bill Clinton’s policy, saying Hillary has the history to “undo those things that Bernie Sanders and Bill Clinton were involved in.”
