Hillary Clinton — the candidate in the Democratic race for president who has wrapped herself in all things Barack Obama — is now refusing to say if she thinks he is a “great” president.

Clinton was offered the chance twice to say whether or not Obama is “great.” She declined to call Obama “great” both times.

“Do you think he’ll be remembered as a great president?” Nevada talk radio host John Ralston asked Clinton.

“I think what he inherited was one of the worst hands dealt to any president coming into office,” Clinton responded. “And it was tragic, such a heartbreaking situation, John.

“We went from my husband’s economic successes, a balanced budget and a surplus. People were working, incomes were rising. Back came the Republicans with a vengeance because I was here fighting against them every step of the way,” Clinton said, continuing to not answer Ralston’s simple question.

After attacking Republican proposals at length, Ralston stepped in: “So ‘great’ — is that a right adjective or not?”

“Well history will decide,” Hillary said, “but I think he has some great accomplishments to his name.”
