How quickly things ended for Marco Rubio.

Not only did he suspend his presidential campaign less than 48 hours ago, but he also declared today that he’s not running for re-election, and won’t run for governor of Florida in 2018.

“Would you consider being (Ted) Cruz’s vice president?” he was asked during a press conference Thursday.

“No, I’m not going to be anybody’s vice president. I’m not — I’m just not — I don’t want — I’m not interested in being vice president,” a seemingly exasperated Rubio responded. “I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way.

After taking a deep breath and looking up, Rubio continued, “I’m not going to be vice president. I’m not running for governor of Florida. I’m gonna finish out my term in the Senate over the next 10 months … and then I’ll be a private citizen in January,” ending with a big smile on his face.
