Failed presidential candidate Michael Dukakis believes it would be a good thing if Bernie Sanders stays in the Democratic race all the way until the convention.

Appearing on CNN Friday, the Hillary Clinton supporter called it an “incredible opportunity” for the party if he did.

“I think if he wants to stay in the race, he should,” Dukakis told Wolf Blitzer.

“If you recall in my race (in 1988), Jesse Jackson stayed in right up until the end, spoke to the convention, I didn’t have a problem with that. And frankly, this is such an incredible opportunity for the Democratic Party, Wolf.

“To have this kind of food fight on the other side and to be able to go to work and make this — and I’m serious about this — a 50-state campaign. Every state, every precinct. We’ve got to organize this country, we’ve got to work with people across this country, and if we do so, we’re not only going to win the presidency, we’re going to win the Congress back.

“And I think that if a Sanders, for example, stays in the race, just gives us a better opportunity to organize for the fall.”

He repeated that the prospect of Sanders staying in is a “huge opportunity and we’ve got to seize it.”
