The Clinton campaign is already rationalizing a potential defeat in Tuesday’s Wisconsin primary.

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, the top Clinton campaign surrogate in the state, appeared on MSNBC Monday and was asked why Clinton’s “uplifting” message isn’t translating into better poll numbers.

In true Clintonian fashion, Baldwin didn’t answer the question.

“Well first of all, both Democratic candidates have a hopeful message about what we can do together when we unite.

“I have always believed that Wisconsin’s primary on the Democratic side was going to be very competitive and we are actually enjoying in many ways being the focal point in the nation right now.”

Then she began to rationalize a potential loss to Sanders.

“I think it will be a tight race. We know that Secretary Clinton has a very strong lead among the delegates and if it is a close race, the delegates from this state will probably be fairly evenly divided and Secretary Clinton will maintain her strong delegate lead going forward.”
