Abortion activists are sending details about their periods to Indiana Gov. Mike Pence after he signed new restrictions on abortions that protect infants with Down syndrome or other disabilities.

An unidentified 39-year-old married mother of one near Indianapolis started social media campaign called “Periods for Pence” over the weekend to express opposition to recently approved legislation that prohibits Indiana women from seeking an abortion simply because a fetus carries a disability, LifeNews.com reports.

“It also prohibits abortions when they are sought based on the gender or race of a fetus and requires the remains of miscarried or aborted fetuses to be interred or cremated,” according to USA Today.

The “Periods of Pence” creator refused to give her name to the news site – alleging she fears for her safety – but urged followers on Facebook and Twitter to contact Pence’s office and let him “know what you think about his intrusive HEA 1337 bill.

“Women should have the right to make their own medical decisions,” according to the Facebook group.

Several folks shared their calls to Pence’s office on the page:

Them: “Good Morning, Governor Pence’s office”
Me: “Good Morning. I just wanted to inform the Governor that things seem to be drying up today. No babies seem to be up in there. Okay?”
Them: (Sounding strangely horrified and chipper at the same time) “Ma’am, can we have your name?”
Me: “Sure. It’s Sue.”
Them: “And your last name?”
Me: “Magina. That’s M-A-G-I-N-A. It rhymes with–”
Them: “I’ve got it.”

Just got through to Governor Pence’s office. (The operator must be on break.)
Me: Hi, is this the operator, or the Governor’s office?
Them: Um, this is the office, but I am covering for the operator right now.
Me: “Oh, good. I need to get a message to the Governor that I am on day three of my period. My flow seems abnormally heavy, but my cramps are much better to–”
Them: (Seriously pissed and trying to keep their voice down, but not quite succeeding) MA’AM, WHAT IS IT THAT I CAN HELP YOU WITH?
Me: Oh, I don’t need your help, I just wanted to keep Governor Pence informed of my reproductive cycle, since he seems so concerned.
Them: “Ugh.” *click*

The Periods for Pence Facebook page has swelled to more than 18,472 “Likes” since its first post March 28. The group is also targeting the author of the Indiana law, Casey Cox, USA Today reports.

But Republican strategist Mike Murphy told the news site the whole campaign is likely for naught, as his pro-life position is “a winning issue, hands down” in Indiana. Pence is running for re-election in November, but Murphy doesn’t think the period campaign will have much of an impact on the race.

“People who are joining this website or this Facebook page weren’t going to vote for him anyhow,” Murphy said.
