New York unionized teachers don’t like Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and they let Hillary Clinton know it when she complimented him at their meeting.
“I applaud the big steps taken under Gov. Cuomo’s leadership to raise the minimum wage,” Clinton told members of the New York State United Teachers, as the crowd loudly booed.
The NYSUT, along with its parent, the American Federation of Teachers, has endorsed Clinton’s candidacy.
“Well,” she said, shrugging her shoulders, “now come on,” she said after sustained jeers came from the audience.
The union announced in a press release the Friday night speech was “not open to the public.”
WHEC reports the teachers union has locked horns with Cuomo over Common Core national education standards and teacher evaluations — both of which he supports and they detest.
According to the news station, some 2,000 unionized school employees attended the conference and “many of them are still trying to decide between her and Bernie Sanders.”
