A Bernie Sanders surrogate called out Hillary Clinton’s campaign for “bullying” and brought up a woman who is sure to raise eyebrows: Monica Lewinsky.
Actress Rosario Dawson was speaking to a crowd in Wilmington, Delaware, when she said, “We are literally under attack for not just supporting the other candidate.”
“Now, I’m with Monica Lewinsky with this. Bullying is bad,” she said, referring to Lewinsky’s efforts to curb cuber bullying.
She received nervous cheers in response.
“Now, as a campaign strategy, we are being bullied,” Dawson said. “And somehow that is okay and not being talked about with the richness it needs to.”
It’s not the first time Dawson has taken the Clinton campaign head on.
During a New York appearance earlier this month for the socialist senator, Dawson ripped into Hillary over her criticisms of Sanders.
“There’s this rumor being perpetuated that Trump talking about abortion and punishing women and doctors then for it, that somehow Bernie Sanders was saying that that wasn’t an important issue,” Dawson said, drawing boos from the crowd.
“Regardless of the fact that he’s always stood up for womens rights, equal pay, equality, and is pro-choice, which the other Democratic candidate very well knows.
“There is this rumor that is pitching out there that because he’s staying, that we’re giving Trump too much time on the airwaves and we need to stop feeding into that hate and talking about the issues that somehow that meant that he doesn’t care about womens issues,” Dawson said.
“Shame on you, Hillary!” Dawson said to wild cheers.
“Oh now, sorry, hold on,” Dawson said sarcastically, “let me watch my tone,” drawing laughs.
Her mocking dig was in reference to a statement from Clinton’s campaign that she would agree to more debates if Sanders improved his “tone.”
“Because we very, very much want a debate, which she already agreed to. And considering that in 2008 there were 26 debates, and she held Obama’s feet to the fire saying that she would debate anytime, anywhere, because that’s what you should do when you’re trying to run the country, let’s very much hope that she does come.”
