Hillary Clinton’s second campaign for president may be the first in American history to have been hit by a recession.
(And she wants Bill in charge of the economy?!?)
Clinton saw her voter base continue to shrink on Tuesday over her 2008 performance. She eked out a victory over the 74-year-old socialist Bernie Sanders 212,549 to 210,626, according to CNN.
In Kentucky in 2008, Hillary Clinton won 459,511 votes, or a comfortable 65.5%. Barack Obama got 209,954, or 30%.
Yes, you’re reading that correctly: Bernie Sanders 2016 got more votes than Barack Obama 2008.
But worse for Hillary, she saw her vote total plunge 54% over her 2008 support.
Meanwhile, she saw a decline in Oregon, as well.
Clinton lost the state to Sanders, 264,151 to 220,943 or a 54.5% to 45.5% loss, CNN reports.
In 2008, Hillary got 259,825 votes in the state, or 40.5%, compared to Barack Obama’s 375,385 votes — or 58.5%.
For those keeping score, that’s a 16% decline. (She’s making improvement!)
Here’s a chart for a better visual:

The results in West Virginia last week were equally bleak for Clinton.
Clinton lost the state’s May 11th primary to Sanders 51% to 36%.
That’s a stark contrast to 2008, when she trounced Barack Obama, 66.9% to 25.7% (John Edwards received 7.3%).
But perhaps what’s more shocking is the raw vote total.
In 2008, she received 240,890 votes. Yesterday, Clinton netted 84,176 votes, according to NBC — a 65% decline.
