While Hillary Clinton’s email scandal is dominating the headlines, she’s got fundraising problems, too — at least according to her campaign manager.
Robby Mook sent an email to supporters late Wednesday night, titled, “We’re lagging behind.”
In the past month, Donald Trump’s supporters have stepped up for him. He held his first major fundraiser this week, bringing in more than $5 million — more than double what was expected.
Bernie Sanders’ supporters came through, too — they chipped in $1 million in a single day after Sanders won West Virginia, and now the Sanders campaign just spent $1.5 million on TV ads in California.
I hate to say it, but right now, we’re the team lagging behind.
He then makes a pitch for a $1 donation before the May 31st finance report filing deadline.
It’s Mook’s second email in lass than a week that admits they have fundraising problems.
On May 20th, he sent another plea:
When we first put together our budget plans for the second quarter of 2016, we didn’t expect we would have to compete on two fronts. But today, Bernie Sanders is competing hard in California, which has the second most expensive media market in the country, and Donald Trump is already lining up new financial support from billionaires.
We’re ready to lock up this nomination and throw our weight into a tough general election, but we need your help right now…
Here’s the thing: Every day that we fall behind in fundraising is a day that Trump gains a dangerous advantage. We can’t risk him getting any closer to the White House.
It’s unclear whether he’ll find any relief. After all, Bernie Sanders has predicted a victory in California on June 7th.
