A Memphis teenager faces a murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed a man inside his car in front of an International House of Pancakes, then sent pictures of the victim using the Snapchat app.
Police charged 16-year-old Sebastian Vaughn with second degree murder this week in the killing of Marlo Williams, 35, who was gunned down as he sat in his vehicle outside of a northeast Memphis IHOP Monday afternoon, Fox 13 reports.
Vaughn’s arrest came after at least one of his friends came forward with a picture of Williams after he was killed that was allegedly sent by the teen, along with the message “I just killed a Mfer 10 minutes ago,” according to WMC.
The father of the Vaughn friend who received the perverse message said he and his son turned the image over to investigators, though police would not confirm the picture is part of the investigation.
“To kill someone is bad enough, but then to do it, brag about it? That’s just too callous,” Opal Washington told WMC. “This is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen. How stupid, how cold blooded, and couldn’t be more damning for the killer.”
Fox 13 visited Vaughn’s home, but no one answered the door. They spoke with neighbors who didn’t seem to know him very well.
“He didn’t say much. He had friends,” a neighbor told the news site. “They only been here a short while.”
Williams’ family, of course, is devastated.
“That’s my brother. We are a year apart. His birthday is June 25, coming up, and man he’s gone too soon,” Undre Williams said before issuing a statement to his brother’s killer.
“Whoever did this, look it’s a life for a life. You took my brother’s life. You deserve to do some time,” he said. “He don’t deserve to walk on these Memphis streets, not ever again.”
Williams said his family is struggling to understand why Marlo Williams was targeted.
“You didn’t have to kill my brother. My brother didn’t deserve to get killed,” Undre Williams said. “He was a family man. He would give you anything.”
Police told Local Memphis the shooting investigation in ongoing. It’s the city’s 107th homicide this year.
“Police still do not know when the shooting occurred,” according to WMC. “Vaughn remains locked up in juvenile court, without access to the cellphone he may have used to send the gruesome Snapchat picture.”
