The Democrats conveniently released the draft of their party platform on Friday afternoon before the July 4th weekend and document attacks Donald Trump on nearly every page.
In the platform, the party states its main goals are to grow the middle class by raising minimum wage and empowering unions; creating new jobs through government employment and clean energy; fighting against income inequality by taxing the rich; providing greater opportunity by supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants, eliminating systemic barriers that keep minorities poor, and expanding the war on poverty.
Other high points in the party’s domestic platform included expanding voting rights by restoring the Voting Rights Act, declaring election day a national holiday, overturning Citizens United, and abolishing voter ID laws; expanding universal healthcare; combating climate change; offering free community college; cracking down on for profit schools with low graduation rates; granting universal Pre-K; and enacting gun control.
The only time the party mentions religious liberties is when it discusses Native Americans tribal beliefs and combating Trump’s ban on visas to Muslims.
Internationally, Democrats sound more supportive of intervention than they did a couple of years ago. They plan on arming Syrian rebels to fight ISIS and ousting President Assad in Syria.
Most ironically, they plan on improving the nation’s cyber security even though they could not prevent their own emails from being hacked by the Romanian hacktivist Guccifer 2.0.
Overall, Trump is attacked 35 times throughout the platform, that’s even more than Mitt Romney’s 22 mentions in 2012, or George W. Bush’s 8 mentions in 2008.
The DNC claimed Trump cannot be trusted to secure American’s economic dignity and also would disable unions.
The platform stated that the billionaire believes a woman’s place; rooted for the housing crisis; believes in privatizing social security; provide trillions in tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and corporations; default on the national debt; would have the military commit war crimes; would alienate important allies like Mexico; and would deny Muslim refugees entry into the U.S.
Trump’s character is also maligned in the document. The party claims he has nearly bankrupted small businesses with his shady practices and outsourced products to factories overseas. The party calls him offensive and divisive, says he ran a “fake university,” and praised North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
Not stopping there, they link Trump’s comments about illegal immigration and terrorism with hate speech, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism.
“We condemn Donald Trump’s demonization of prisoners of war, women, Muslims, Mexicans, and people with disabilities; his playing coy with white supremacists; and the climate of bigotry he is creating. We also condemn the recent uptick in other forms of hate speech, like anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.”
