A 19-year-old Euclid, Ohio man and a 12-year-old boy were hit with gunfire at a “Stop the Violence Beach Party” Monday that police believe may be related to another shooting the same night.

A few hundred residents attended the impromptu party at Sims Park Beach shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday when someone fired several shots into the crowd before taking off. Phillip Banks, 19, was hit in the head and later pronounced dead at Euclid Hospital, WKYC reports.

A 12-year-old boy was also hit in the back and taken to the hospital, though his condition is unknown, according to ABC 5.

Euclid Police told the media the incident was followed by another shooting in the area about an hour later. In that incident, an 18-year-old Euclid man was walking along Lakeshore Boulevard near Water’s Edge Apartments when someone fired several shots at him from across the street, one striking him in the shoulder.

The teen was also taken to the hospital and his condition was unknown, said police, who are now investigating to determine if the two incidents were related.

“My grandma just found out about the shooting at the beach and called me,” Rudxolph posted to Twitter Sunday. “She was crying and worried.”

“Now that I gave you the info we have – let it sink in for a second that a child was shot and a teen was killed at a STOP THE VIOLENCE EVENT,” WEWS news reporter Homa Bash tweeted Monday.

“Euclid man killed at anti-violence rally Sunday is Phillip Banks, 19,” CBS 19 reporter Julia Tullos tweeted Monday. “No arrests.”

Homa Bash also posted a picture of the victim on Twitter.

“PHOTO: Family says 19yo Phillip Banks was gunned down while he was at Stop the Violence rally in Euclid last night,” Bash wrote.

Twitter aggregation site Twitchy.com highlighted several posts about the shootings, and offered its take on the situation.

“Whatever you think of the movement, #BlackLivesMatter is an ingenious piece of branding. If you say that all lives matter, you’re missing the point of this specific movement, which is to highlight lethal violence against blacks by police,” the site opined.

“If you criticize the movement or its leadership or its tactics, though, the name suddenly assumes its literal meaning, and you risk being accused of claiming that black lives don’t matter,” it continued. “So at the risk of falling into the latter category, it would be nice if someone would say something about a fatal shooting Sunday night in Euclid, Ohio, near Cleveland.

“Or are there only so many hashtags to go around?”

ABC 5 reports police patrolled Sims Park Beach with weapons drawn, and deployed a SWAT team and a helicopter, to look for the shooter or shooters responsible but came up empty handed.
