Sometimes it’s what you don’t say is what the listener really hears.

That is certainly the case when a Democratic Hillary Clinton supporter is asked about her presidential nominee’s honesty issues.

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan is the latest to give a gold medal performance in linguistic gymnastics that would give any Rio Olympian a run for their money.

Hassan was asked by CNN three times whether she thinks Hillary Clinton is honest and she gave three different responses — and none of them answered the question.

“Do you think that she’s honest and trustworthy?” Hassan was asked.

“I support Hillary Clinton for the presidency because her experience and her record demonstrate that she’s qualified to hold the job,” she responded.

Asked again, “Do you think she’s honest,” Hassan answered, “She has, um, a critical, um, critical plan among others, uh, for making college more affordable.”

“But you think that she’s trustworthy,” the reporter asked.

“I think that she has demonstrated that a commitment always to something beyond herself, bigger than herself.”

What Hassan apparently wouldn’t say, is that “something” apparently doesn’t include telling the truth.
