As Hillary Clinton’s advisors cooked up canned zingers for an upcoming debate, one was deemed “too Jesse Jackson” for her style.
Clinton aides batted about several ideas for a December 2015 debate with Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley, according to an email released by Wikileaks.
“As we discussed at the end of the session on Sunday, I have prepared the attached set of debate ‘moments.’ These are NOT complete answers,” Ron Klain wrote on December 15, 2015 to several campaign staffers, including John Podesta, Huma Abedin, Jake Sullivan and Jennifer Palmieri.
“They are key plays, not the whole playbook,” he wrote.
Advisor Mandy Grunwald offered several criticisms of the suggestions, including one where she compared a line about “GOP rhetoric” to something Jesse Jackson might say.
“On GOP rhetoric, this line feels a little too Jesse Jackson for HRC He’s not working to make American great – he’s trying to turn Americans to hate,” she wrote, presumably attempting to attack Donald Trump.
The email did not indicate what the proposed line was.
