Those who think Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will lose Ohio may be in for a rude awakening.
The latest poll, from CNN, shows The Donald leading Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton by 4 percent, 48 percent to 44 percent, The Dayton Daily News points out.
Trump is behind Clinton by a mere three percent with Ohio women, despite the fact that the 1,009 adult Ohioans surveyed by ORC International between October 11 and 15 were largely aware of a “hot mic” tape of Trump discussing lewd and aggressive behavior towards women, CNN reports.
Ohio survey respondents “had heard a great deal about the video itself, and most say the way Trump talks about women on the tape reflects his views about women generally,” according to the news site. “But in both Ohio and North Carolina, comparisons to CNN/ORC polls in September and late-August respectively suggest the allegations aren’t hurting Trump in either of those states, either among likely voters or among the larger pool of registered voters.”
The Daily News points out that “the poll finds women in Ohio evenly split, 48 percent for Clinton and 45 percent for Trump. Trump wins easily in Ohio among men, 52-39 percent.
“Married women in Ohio break for Trump 54 percent to 40 percent for Clinton, according to CNN.”
A closer look at the CNN poll data shows Trump’s lead is outside of the 3.5 percentage point margin of error, and he leads Clinton in the state on the topics of the economy, immigration, trade, and trustworthiness. Clinton leads among Ohio voters on foreign policy, ability as commander in chief, and temperament, poll results show.
The poll asked how aware respondents had heard of the 2005 video of Trump talking about women and 53 percent responded “a great deal,” 25 percent “a fair amount,” and the rest “just a little” or “nothing at all.”
Fifty-four percent of Ohioans believe Trump’s remarks on the tape reflect his views about women, while 41 percent believe it does not.
Real Clear Politics’ average of all national polls puts Clinton ahead of Trump by 6.4 percent as the candidates prepare to square off in the final of three debates on Wednesday at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
A Monmouth poll conducted between Oct. 14 and 16 of 726 likely voters shows Clinton with the biggest lead of 12 percentage points, while Trump continues to lead by one percent in the LA Times/USC Tracking poll of 2,975 likely voters. Other polls by ABC, NBC, Fox, the Economist and Reuters fall somewhere in between.
