To listen to CNN, one might think Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor Michael Flynn wants to declare war on Islam itself.
On Tuesday, CNN political reporter Sara Murray tweeted, “Sooo Michael Flynn called the world’s second-largest religion a “cancer” that “has to be excised.”

The tweet contained a link to a CNN story that very clearly pointed out Flynn was referring to “Islamism,” which defenders of Islam say is a corrupted version of the religion.
“We are facing another ‘ism,’ just like we faced Nazism, and fascism, and imperialism and communism,” Flynn is quoted as saying in the story. “This is Islamism, it is a vicious cancer inside the body of 1.7 billion people on this planet and it has to be excised.”
It’s not clear whether incompetence, intention to deceive, a desire to smear, or the all-around anti-Trump CNN bias led to Murray’s tweet.
Regardless, after the CNN reporter’s error was pointed out, she deleted the post:
You're right – I should've noted that he said Islamism and I've deleted the tweet. https://t.co/XeH6GaqxII
