Green Party candidate Jill Stein has been accused of taking votes away from fellow progressive Hillary Clinton in close states like Wisconsin and Michigan, but today she claimed her research finds she actually took votes away from the Republican Donald Trump.
Appearing on MSNBC — in her umpteenth interview since demanding recalls in those states, plus Pennsylvania — Stein objected to being considered a spoiler.
The final tally in Wisconsin shows Trump defeated Clinton by 22,177 votes. Stein netted 31,006 votes.
Asked what the outcome might have been had she not run, Stein responded, “What the numbers show is that if I were not running, or if I had dropped out, most of Green voters would not have voted, and of the remainder, a substantial portion — more than one-third — would have voted for Donald Trump.
“So, unfortunately, the numbers are very clear that absent my campaign, the results would have been absolutely not different,” Stein said.
“It would not have changed the outcome in any state.”
She didn’t say why she thought Green Party supporters would have voted for Trump over Clinton.
