Inaction in Syria has relegated the United Nations to “Morning Joe’s” ash heap of history.

The MSNBC group was discussing the broken cease fire in Aleppo when Mike Barnicle declared, “Another thing that’s been evident after the past five years, they should just shut down the United Nations.”

“Shut it down,” co-host Joe Scarborough echoed.

“Because they do nothing,” Barnicle continued. “They’ve done so little in this regard.”

“Mike, thank God you said that,” Scarborough responded. “You know what they do? They come here in September and they have parties. That’s all they do.

“This is disgraceful. If there were ever — ever — a legitimate cause for the United Nations it would have been over the past five years” of the Syrian civil war.

Scarborough continued, “Why do we have the United Nations? Why do we have NATO if they can’t do anything here?”

On the ceasefire, USA Today reported:

Opposition activists in Syria say bombing resumed Wednesday in the remaining rebel-held part of eastern Aleppo, breaking a cease-fire deal that was agreed hours earlier, according to media reports.

Rebels reached an agreement to evacuate in an effective surrender on Tuesday, as Russia declared all military action had stopped and the Syrian government had assumed control of the former rebel enclave, the Associated Press reported.

Rebels and civilians were expected to leave the last rebel stronghold under the deal, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey. Hours later, activists said rebel-held neighborhoods were shelled, CNN reported.
