Nearly two dozen religious leaders celebrated a new abortion clinic in Washington, D.C. Tuesday and offered their blessing for Planned Parenthood, including Hindu priests, Muslim Imams, so-called Christian leaders and others.

The new $20 million, 27,000-square-foot “NoMa” facility opened in September, but Baptist United Church of Christ organized the event with the help of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice and Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington to showcase the facility amid calls from Congressional Republicans to end government funded abortions, the DCist reports.

The big shin dig even featured the all-female percussion group Batala Washington, which decided to participate because “there are a lot of us throughout our lives who have benefited from Planned Parenthood,” member Erin Schmieder told the news site.

The event featured a prayer circle led by Reform Judaism Rabbi Michael Namath, visual art, “liturgical” dance, and discussions about why everybody there thinks Planned Parenthood – the largest abortion provider in the U.S. – is so great.

“I’ve been a Christian longer than I’ve been an abortion provider,” Willie Parker, a so-called reproductive health “rock star,” told the DCist.

“Women have been made to think that his (abortion center) is some evil place, where God is not,” he said, “cursing (women) for making sacred decisions.

“Our answer to the curse is to bless.”

The big bang even featured “America’s first openly gay imam,” who beamed in over Skype from Thailand for the ceremony, according to the news site.

Hindu priests chanted, visitors sang ‘This Little Light of Mine,” and PPMW’s Meyers spoke about how the new abortion facility offers “affirmation, love, and care.”

“We designated this space to communicate these values,” she said.

DCist reports PPMW’s health centers served 15,007 patients in fiscal year 2016 by providing contraceptives to 9,317, pregnancy tests to 3,113, breast exams for 1,081 and emergency contraception to 617 – but provided no stats on abortions.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s 2014 Annual Report showed its clinics across the country performed 324,000 abortions. The organization raked in $530 million from the federal government in Medicaid reimbursements alone that year, according to Wikipedia.

A Government Accountability Office report commissioned in 2015 showed Planned Parenthood and its affiliates received “$1.2 billion from Medicaid, $201 million from the Title X family planning program $40.6 million from Title XX Social Services block grants and $25.9 million from the Title V Maternal and Child health Services block grant” over a three year period, from 2010-2012, LifeNews reports.

Planned Parenthood medical director Serina Floyd said the visiting religious leaders at the NoMa facility means she can “now … tell patients that this is a blessed space.”

Floyd said often “patients express shame, guilt, or fear about how God will perceive them,” but she believes “having an abortion does not make you unlovable in God’s eyes.”

Regardless, Republican lawmakers would rather the federal government get out of the business of killing unborn children.

House Speaker Paul Ryan told the Associated Press last week that upcoming legislation to repeal Obamacare will end taxpayer money flowing to Planned Parenthood.
