The Super Bowl wouldn’t accept an ad from 84 Lumber because it contained imagery of a “border wall.”
But an ad some claim is a dig at Donald Trump’s immigration actions — and looms large over the policy debate — will air Sunday on Fox.
Budweiser’s 60 second ad tells the story of the immigrant beer company founder, who, according to the narrative, came to America to make beer.

“You don’t look like you’re from around here,” an ominous voice says in the ad.
“Why leave Germany?” the man is asked as he gets stitched up during a violent ship ride.
“I want to brew beer,” Adolphus Busch replies.
After getting his papers stamped, he walks through the streets getting heckled. “You’re not wanted here! Go back home!”
It closes with him shaking hands with Eberhard Anheuser.
Fox rejected an ad from 84 Lumber over “controversial” content.
The New York Post reported:
In a statement, agency chief executive Michael Brunner said, “Fox rejected our original commercial because they determined that some of the imagery, including ‘the wall,’ would be too controversial.”
The retail chain used the wall image, Brunner said, because it wants to talk about who it is — “a company looking for people with grit, determination and heart, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what they look like.”
Anheuser-Busch Budweiser will undoubtedly say there was no political motivation behind the company’s ad.
But so did 84 Lumber.
“The point isn’t to say anything about a political stance one way or another,” the agency spokesman told the Post.
While that wasn’t enough to save 84 Lumber’s ad, it likely will be a sufficient excuse for Budweiser.
