Bill Maher is patting himself on the back for conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulous’s recent fall from grace, but Maher’s critics are making sure the world understands the hypocrisy.

Yiannopoulous appeared on “Real Time With Bill Maher” last Friday, shortly before long-forgotten videos of an interview sparked a public backlash over his alleged comments about pedophilia. Yiannopoulous, the gay tech editor for Breitbart.com, seemingly defended sexual relations between “boys” and men in the years-old interview.

“What I think people saw was an emotionally needy Ann Coulter wannabe, trying to make a buck off of the left’s propensity for outrage,” Maher told The New York Times of Yiannopoulous’ visit.

“He’s the little impish, bratty kid brother,” he said. “And the liberals are his older teenager sisters who are having a sleepover and he puts a spider in their sleeping bag so he can watch them scream.”

The videos of Yiannopoulous’ alleged pedophilia comments surfaced over the weekend and ultimately cost him a speaking engagement at CPAC, a book deal with Simon & Schuster, and his position at Breitbart. Maher, of course, had no issue with taking credit where none was due. He thinks exposure on his show crashed the brash British journalist.

“As I say, sunlight is the best disinfectant,” Maher told The Times. “You’re welcome.”

Ironically, Maher has spent two decades as a liberal television provocateur who invites his political polar opposites on his shows for controversial debates, essentially the same thing he faults Yiannopoulous for.

Twitter user Warrior Cop found a clip of one of the discussions from “Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher” on ABC that featured Maher explaining his views on pedophilia in the context of Mary Kay Letourneau, who served prison time from 1998 to 2004 for the rape of a 12-year-old student she later married.

Warrior Cop wrote: “If Bill Maher thinks sunlight is the best disinfectant then here’s him saying the same shit as Milo, that it’s ok for adults to f**k kids.”

“ … Mary Letourneau, the teacher from Seattle, she’s in jail because she is in love. That’s how I view it,” Maher said in the video. “I admit it’s unorthodox, she is 35 and the boy is 14, he was younger when they started.”

“She is pregnant again, that was the story this week, with the second child by this boy. So basically they’re having a family and they’re keeping the mother in jail because she won’t conform to what society feels should be the perfect American family,” he said.

Maher’s guests on the show, activist Celeste Greig and musician Henry Rollins, immediately called Maher out on his views of the “sickening” situation.

“Here’s a woman who’s over 20 years older and she raped this kid?!” Greig said.

“Raped?” Maher questioned. “Come on.”

“I think an older woman can manipulate a young kid and I don’t think it’s really healthy for a kid that’s going to be 14 with two kids out in the world,” Rollins said. “I think those kids are going to grow up fairly damaged and he is going to grow up fairly damaged.”

“So you’re on her side,” Maher said of Greig.

“Ya,” Rollins said.
