Maybe it’s time for Pat Leahy to retire.
During a second day of the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch, the 76-year-old Democratic senator from Vermont called Gorsuch “Judge Garland.”
Watch:
“Thank you, Judge Garland. It’s good to have you back,” Leahy said as he began his line of questioning.
The confused senator, who has been in office since 1975, was referring to Merrick Garland, a nominee chosen by President Obama during his final year in office after the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Leahy didn’t correct himself.
Meanwhile, Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham mistakenly told Gorsuch that “Justice (Samuel) Alito passed away in February.”
Lindsey Graham has a slip of the tongue: “Justice Alito passed away in February.” Actually meant the late Scalia. https://t.co/b9CSJI2pvL

He meant Scalia.
