President Donald Trump met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday in what Trump described as a “very, very good meeting” between the two.

Lavrov first met with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and then traveled to the White House where he met with President Trump to discuss various issues such as the war in Syria. Trump also met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

The White House says Trump emphasized his desire “to build a better relationship” with Russia during the meeting.

Relations between the two countries have gotten worse after Trump’s recent bombing of Syria but may finally be improving. Trump said it was a “a very, very good meeting” and that the U.S. and Russia are making progress to “stop the killing and the death” in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov says the two countries will work together on multiple issues, including the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine.

“We have discussed our cooperation on the international stage. It’s been confirmed that despite all the difficulties, our countries can and must act together to help solve key problems on today’s international agenda,” Lavrov said at a press conference at the Russian embassy in Washington after meeting with President Trump.

Lavrov also slammed reporters when asked multiple times about Russia’s supposed meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

“I think this is even humiliating for American people to hear that US internal affairs are being governed by Russia. How can it be that such a great nation is thinking in this way?” he said.
