Did Hurricane Harvey blow away Democrat hopes for impeachment?
Rep. Al Green, a leading impeachment champion, likely second only to Maxine Waters, back off on his demands on Friday as he was forced to praise President Trump’s response to the disaster.
“He came to Texas. I credit him for doing that,” Green said on CNN. “I think is was important that he come.
“I’m told that he’s coming to Houston. I think that it’s important that he do that as well,” Green said, referring to Trump’s visit today.
But Green wouldn’t be happy until Trump shows him the money.
When the congressman was asked if he was backing off his demands for Trump’s impeachment, he seemed to hedge.
“I have never given a timeline for what we have called the breach of the Constitution,” Green said. “I’ve never done that.”
The congressman claimed the hurricane recovery is his “Number 1 priority.”
Green insisted again he’s “never given a timeline and I don’t intend to give a timeline” for Trump’s impeachment.
In July, Green co-sponsored Articles of Impeachment to oust the president from office, according to the Washington Post.
