Maxine Waters is standing by her man.
John Conyers’ lawyer Arnold Reed praised the California congresswoman’s reaction after his client resigned after numerous sexual harassment accusations against Conyers were revealed.
“There were a couple people who really supported him and his family — they gave great family support — my good friend Maxine Waters,” Reed said.
“Maxine Waters and I have been talking in the last week at least two or three times a day.
“Sheila Jackson Lee has also been there to give family support for the congressman and let this be a decision that the congressman reached with his family,” Reed said.
“So I can’t say enough about those two, especially Maxine Waters. I’m motivated to help Maxine Waters with every initiative she wants in her district.
“I am proud of the way that they stood and let this be his decision,” Reed said.
Reed didn’t thank Nancy Pelosi, whom he lashed out at last week.
Business Insider reported:
Conyers’ attorney, Arnold Reed, told reporters at a Thursday afternoon press conference that the senior Democrat would not be “pressured” by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to leave the office he’s held for 50 years.
“Nancy Pelosi did not elect the congressman and she sure as hell won’t be the one to tell the congressman to leave,” Reed told reporters in Detroit.
“He is not going to be pressured by Nancy Pelosi or anyone else to step down.”
Conyers resigned on Tuesday and endorsed his son to replace him.
